What does it mean in Revelation 13:7 speaking of the Devil that "[Power] was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them" There have been times when I have read this and thought are we utterly hopeless? Since the adversary has been given power to overcome us we might as well just give up then right? WRONG!!! I have patiently pondered this passage and I'd like to suggest to you the "reason of the hope that is in [me]" (1 Peter 3:15)
The first and foremost reason for us to not be discouraged about being overcome is Jesus Christ has told us "be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." I always find comfort in those words, no matter how dark the day, the Savior's words light the way.
The encouraging thing of course is our Savior Jesus Christ knows exactly what we are going through "according to the flesh" he also knows every anxiety be it emotional, mental, or physical. Since he has overcome the world I think it would be wise to follow his counsel, so that we also may overcome it as well.
Remember this counsel by the Lord himself "by giving heed and doing these things which ye have received, and which ye shall hereafter receive—and the kingdom is given you of the Father, and power to overcome all things which are not ordained of him" (D&C 50:35)
Whatever life is throwing in your path be it marital problems, wayward children, even the loss of a loved one. Friends "be not overcome" or discouraged. What Jesus is telling us is as sobering as it is true. If we "give heed" to the things we have received from him i.e. the scriptures, the words of prophets, and the power of prayer. Power will be given to us to overcome and not be overcome. (Rev. 13:7)
